NBA pre-season/training camp to start this week

The new NBA season is getting closer and I can’t wait. I wonder if there will be anymore major trades as all the big name free agents have re-signed already. Two players I think will be traded before the trade deadline are Carlos Boozer and Tracy McGrady. Both have expiring BIG contracts. Boozer has already publicly stated he wants to be traded and McGrady doesn’t seem to be part of the Rockets future plans, especially with Yao Ming out for the season.

I can Tracy McGrady being traded to a contender around mid-season. Which teams could use an explosive scorer? That is if he has anything left and returns strong from injury.

Boozer on the other hand is injury prone but currently is healthy. Although he is a risk, if he stays injury free then the team that gets him can consider themselves lucky. The Jazz will want something decent back for Boozer but if his attitude doesn’t impress the Jazz, they’ll ship him out to get something at least for him.

I can see the Miami Heat being active around the trade deadline and they have a lot of expiring contracts. One is fan favorite Udonis Haslem. Although its tough to give up a workhorse like Haslem, he would be the perfect fit in Utah backing up the C and PF positions. Miami getting Boozer could trial him till the end of the season. Then Riley’s master plan can come into play. With having bird-rights on Wade and Boozer, Riley can re-sign both and still add 2 big free agents. The two Miami should target are Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson. That would leave a line-up of:
C: Amare
PF: Boozer
SF: Beasley
SG: Wade
PG: Joe Johnson

Bench: Cook, Wright, Chalmers, Jermaine O’Neal (also an expiring contract - can be re-signed for cheap as no one else will want him), Jones, Joel Anthony and other fillers.

If Miami can field a team like this for the 2010-2011 season and for the next few seasons - this team will be built to win Championships.. not just division or conference titles.

We’ll wait and see how it pans out but it can work if everything falls into place.
